our RUBies

Ranging from deep to vivid red, the ruby’s captivating color palette makes it an extraordinary gem, as rare as it is intricate. Since 2019, we’ve pioneered traceability by sourcing our first rubies directly from mining groups. From that point forward, we’ve actively overseen every step of the transformation process—from rough stone to polished gem—ensuring the highest quality and complete transparency regarding their origins and journey from mine to market.
ORIGIN

Rubies from our mines in Montepuez, Mozambique, bear comparison with the legendary rubies of Mogok, Burma. In vivid hues from intense red to purplish red and orangey red, FURA rubies also have strong fluorescence with the glow, giving them the brilliance and luster of the rare Burmese gems of yesteryear. These unique features make our rubies highly desirable.
Unlike, the decades old classic source of Mogok in Burma which is known for producing high quality rubies in a very small quantity, FURA’s mines are placed in a unique position to consistently supply very high and premium quality rubies in significant quantities. FURA’s Mozambique ruby mine is also the source of the Largest, the Finest and the Rarest Gem quality rough ever found.
FURA’s ruby deposits are over 475 million years older than those of Burma, and the Montepuez region has the largest deposits found in decades, anywhere in the world.

The existence of rubies in Montepuez, in northeast Mozambique, became widely known in 2009.
Today, the Montepuez ruby mine in Cabo Delgado province covers 33,600 hectares of one of the most significant ruby deposits in the world. Gemfields owns 75% of Montepuez Ruby Mining Limitada (“MRM”). The remaining 25% is owned by Mwiriti Limitada, a local Mozambican company.
Since operations began in 2012, Gemfields has established world-leading facilities and transformed the communities that surround it. MRM provides employment (both direct and via contractors) to 1,400 people, 95% of whom are Mozambican nationals.
The Montepuez mine provides more than half of the world’s supply of quality rubies, delivering over USD 100 million in tax revenue to the government, and over 1% of revenue allocated to establishing community and conservation projects.
