KNOW – HOW

Garaude’s expertise has been recognised for many years. It lies in our mastery of stones sourcing, cutting and sorting. By applying a unique vision of the material to rough stones purchased directly from the source, Garaude has succeeded in imposing a sensitive approach to the matter. The purchasing of rough gemstones has started in 2019, with a willingness to come as close as possible to the source, in order to guarantee a full transparency and traceability to our clients. For more than five years, auction after auction, Garaude has been able to analyze rough stones and to select the best possible material in order to provide our clients with top quality gemstones. Furthermore, the cutting of Garaude stones, entirely done in-house in our workshop in Bangkok, is unique. By seeking to appropriate the rough, by understanding the colors and the material, our cutters and their expertise result in perfectly homogeneous cuts of rubies, sapphires and emeralds.
This mastery was recognised in 2023, when we were entrusted with the cutting of the world’s largest ruby: the Estrela de Fura. The behind-the-scenes film documents every step of the process, the challenges we faced and the way we overcame them. This unique gem had been sold for $35,2M at Sotheby’s on the 6th of June 2023.
Yet, Garaude savoir-faire goes further. The art of cutting is not the only component of our expertise and the sorting of the stones by shape, color and quality, followed by their arrangement in sets has been Garaude’s signature for more than five years. By collecting a certain quantity of rough, auction after auction, we are able to compose gemstones sets, arranged homogeneously, providing our clients with endless possibilities for their creations of parures.
