PRECIOUS STONES DEALER
Francois Garaude became a gemstone dealer in 1981. Living in Brazil, he went to the emerald mines and began by buying and cutting rough stones. Then he sold his batches to American and French wholesalers. He went on to run a gemstone cutting workshop in Sao Paulo.
When he returned to France he began selling his emeralds in Place Vendôme.
When emeralds started being synthetically treated in the '90s, he gave up resin-treated emeralds and turned to the natural stones required by the great jewelers.
He went to Asia and ended up in Burma, whither he would return frequently to stock up on rubies, sapphires, spinels and jade.
